The present research is a qualitative descriptive translation study which uses a model of translation criticism based on critical discourse analysis. The study aimed at the possible impact of ideological orientations and the influence of translators’ biases on their translatorial decisions, leading to the final translation product. The study mainly concerned the intervention of ideologies at the subconscious level of the translators. Therefore, the study was delimited to focus on untrained translators who have not received any formal translation education and do not work as a professional translator. To this end, ten translations of an English passage with the general topic of early history of feminism translated by a purposively selected sample of ten Iranian female participants were studied. The study sought to trace the interventions and manipulations of the nonprofessional translators when translating an ideologically invested source text. Congruent with earlier findings in the literature, the results of the analysis of the translated texts provided reason to believe that the target text and the source text, the former following the latter in an intertextual chain, are not equally the same and differ in more than the variable of language. An evident difference of the source text and the target text(s) originated from the representations of translators’ ideologies in the translated texts.
