Abstract

Tocopherols are natural Anti-Oxidants that their presence in the oil seeds is associated with a relative abundance of unsaturated fatty acids. This study aimed to identify the type and extent of the blacknight shade seed oil fatty acids and tocopherols in it. After many experiments with the supercritical fluids of carbon dioxide in pressure range between 100 to 350 bar and temperatures between 30 oC to 55oC, the oil was extracted at 35 oC and the pressure 170 bar in one hundred twenty minutes. The rate of extraction was designated as 2.7 percent. Identification of fatty acids was performed by gas chromatography. Also, high performance liquid chromatography was used for determination of tocopherols. The total amount of tocopherols in plant oil was determined 1518 ppm. Chromatogram analysis of sample showed 17 different fatty acids. The major fatty acids, including linoleic acid 63.67, oleic acid 17.68, and palmitic acid 11.30 percent were detected. Total amount of monounsaturated fatty acids and polyunsaturated are considerable. They include about 85% of the total fatty acids in blacknight shade oil that indicate the high nonsaturation and nutritional value.
