Abstract

In the present research, Al-Al2O3 composites have been fabricated by spark plasma sintering (SPS) that is known as a one of advanced sintering methods of metallic powders. The microstructural studies and elemental qualitative analyses of composites were carried out by optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with EDS system. In addition, wear resistance of samples with zero to 15 w% Al2O3 were studied by pin- on- disc method. The results show significant decreasing of wear rate about 30% in samples with 5 w% Al2O3. Furthermore, in these samples Al2O3 particles are dispersed homogenously in Al matrix. In following, the growing rate of wear resistance amounts is decreased by increasing of Al2O3 w% up to 10 and 15%. In fact, due to porosities creation the rate of wear resistance rising is gradually plateau in samples.
