Abstract

Hypericin and pseudohypericin are bioactive constituents in Hypericum perforatum that widely used to production of antiviral and anti-burn drugs. Drying is one of the important processes of post-harvesting that play a key role in the quantity and quality of these components. In order to study the effect of different drying methods on the drying rate and the amount of hypericin, an experiment take place in a completely randomized design with three replications. Drying methods included: 1-Artificial shade 2-Oven (50°C and 70°C) 3- Hybrid Solar Dryer 4-Microwave (180, 360, 540, 720 and 900 w). Drying continued until the moisture content approached to 10 percent based on fresh weightor0.1 based on the dry weight. Results showed a significant effect of treatments on the measured parameters. So that the minimum and maximum drying time related to microwave 900w (7 minutes and 56 seconds) and artificial shade treatment (100 hours and 24 minutes) respectively. The highest level of hypericin content found in treatment of solar dryer (0.25) and its lowest content in microwave900w (0.12) treatment.
