Abstract

This paper presents the theoretical procedure of the active vibration control of a simply supported composite beam with integrated piezoelectric layers. Two piezoelectric layers, one acting as a sensor and the other as an actuator which are embedded on the top and bottom surfaces of beam have been considered. Due to remarkable characteristics of PID controllers, this controller is used for the active vibration control of beam. The velocity feedback control algorithm is used for controlling the beam. It is shown that the piezoelectric layers using PID controller can effectively suppress the amplitude vibration of the composite beam. Moreover, the influence of thickness of the piezoelectric layer and also the piezoelectric charge intensity on the reduction of vibration amplitude are investigated.
