Abstract
Information technology changed many different aspects of our life, and it glorifies some old concept and converts them from a radical issue to a practical daily issue. Knowledge management is not such a new concept, some sort of KM have been applied during years but by helping IT tools it become more practical. There is bulk of literature that mention IT is one of the critical success factors of KM and mangers should consider them as an important factor in KM implementing. In this paper by reviewing the literature of KM frameworks and lifecycles first we summarize frameworks to cover all phases that the researches mention and second we conduct a survey by questioning the experts to weight the role of IT in each phase. In the decision stage, knowledge strategic plan, organizational knowledge capturing and design KM system such as knowledge repositories are three phases which the role of IT is the most significant. In the implementation stage, the phase of store organizational knowledge is the only phase which the role of IT is significant. In the application stage the only phase which the role of IT is significant is complete knowledge map
