Abstract
In this paper, accurate analytical solutions to three-dimensional stress field of the adhesively bonded piezoelectric patches under electrical incitements are presented within the framework of the full layerwise theory (FLWT). The effects of adhesive thickness and bond-line length on the stress distributions interior the bonding region and near the edges are investigated. In order to apply the layerwise displacement field, each joint is divided into a large number of mathematical sub-layers through the thickness, and partitioned into three regions along the length. The three sets of fully coupled governing equations are derived based on three-dimensional equations of elasticity and solved analytically by the aid of the state space approach.
