Abstract

The amino acids are components of protein and as a nutritional substances are known as essential and non essential. Some amino acids and their derivatives regulate important metabolic pathways in fish bodies that is important for growth, maintenance, feed intake, feed utilization, immunity, behavior, metamorphosis, reproduction, resistance against pathogenical and environmental stresses. These are named functional amino acids. Identification and dietary supplementation of these amino acids or their biologically active metabolites is expected to offset adverse effects of replacement of fish meal from aquafeeds.
