Abstract
In the past few years, due to environmental problems and the depletion of fossil fuels, concern has been raised for a need in the development of renewable fuel such as biodiesel fuel. The most common ways of producing biodiesel is by esterification and trans-esterification reaction, which could be catalyzed by homogeneous or heterogeneous acid and a base catalyst [1,2]. The solid acid catalysts has the advantages of high catalytic efficiency, insensitive to Free Faty Acid (FFA) content, esterification, transesterification occur simultaneously and are reusable [3,4]. In this work, sulfated alumina as a solid acid catalyst was prepared by impregnation method with different SO42- contents (from 0.1 to 3 molarity of H2SO4). The samples were characterized using XRD, BET and SEM analysis and their performances were evaluated by the esterification reaction of oleic acid with methanol
