Abstract
Ammonium chloride and glycerol are usually employed as the source of nitrogen and carbon for growth of the desulfurizing microorganism, respectively. This paper studies the effects of ammonium chloride and glycerol concentrations on R.erythropolis strain IGTS8 growth rate and biodesulfurization activity. This study revealed that the use of ammonium chloride above 2 g/l did not result in higher growth rate and 2-HBP production. Furthurmore, increasing glycerol concentration (g/l) from 4 to 10 did not have a considerable influence on growth rate, whereas maximum amount of 2-HPB was produced in a medium with 10 g/l glycerol. Consequently, seeking the best condition for biodesulfurization activity, ammonium chloride of 2 g/l and glycerol of 10 g/l were chosen as nitrogen and carbon sources, repectively.
