Abstract

A convenient procedure for the preparation of highly functionalized tetrahydropiperidines is described through the one-pot condensation reaction of ethylacetoacetate, various substituted benzaldehydes and anilines catalyzed by TiCl2.2H2O. Atom economy, efficiency and short reaction times are the advantages of the method, which is carried out under mild reaction conditions using easily accessible and inexpensive chemicals. The antimicrobial activity of the synthesized products was also evaluated against 3 gram positive and 3 gram negative bacteria, one yeast and one fungi strains using disc diffusion and minimum inhibitory concentration methods.
