The present study was designated to evaluate the antibacterial activities of aqueous, methanolic and hydro alcoholic extracts from airial parts of Stachys turcomanica against different pathogenic bacteria using broth micro-dilution and Agar Well Diffusion (AWD) assay. The extracts of S. turcomanica in were active against the gram-positive bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus (inhibition zone = 16.5 mm) and virtually inactive against the other gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria (Listeria monocytogenes, E. coli and S. typhimurium). The hydro-alcoholic extract of this plant in broth micro-dilution assay, showed higher antimicrobial activity compared to aqueous and methanolic extracts (MIC= 12.5 mg ml-1 for E. coli and S. typhimurium). Results showed good antibacterial activity for this extract on S. aureus, which suggest its capacity as a natural food preservative.
