Thyroid hormones play a vital role in cell division, cell differentiation, growth, energy metabolism and reproduction. Age is one of the factors that might affect thyroid activity and serum hormone concentrations, but only limited information is available on physiological changes in thyroid hormones in healthy goat kids. To investigate the age related change of thyroid in Saanen goat kids during the first three months of age, whole blood samples were collected from 19 clinically healthy goat kids(female:14, male:5). The first blood sample was obtained between 24-48h after birth and continued at 10±2, 28±2, 56±2 and 84±2 days of age. The serum was analyzed for thyroid hormones; T3 and T4 by ELISA. Results showed significant age related changes for both T3 and T4 (p<0.05) and also there were significant differences with first sampling time for T4 and T3 (P<0.005).
