Toxocara canis is a parasitic, ascarid nematode considered to be one of the most prevalent gastrointestinal helminths of domestic dogs and other canids worldwide. The larvae of this parasite in dogs migrate to the lungs and liver to complete the life cycle, thus respiratory symptoms such as cough and nasal discharge and vomiting may be observed. Neurological symptoms in human beings have been reported due to migration of the larvae of the parasite to the central nervous system. Beside, neurotoxocariasis associated withlowermotorneuronparalysishasbeenreportedinamale individual but such neurological symptoms have not been reported in dogs. A 45-day-old male puppy of husky with flaccid paralysis was referred to the Veterinary Clinic of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, Iran. Results of neurologic examinations indicated delayed postural reactions and reduced spinal reflexes in all limbs. These symptoms are consistent with the diffuse lower motor neuron (LMN) paralysis. Paraclinical findings such as hematological and biochemical profile showed neutrophilic leukocytosis and hypokalemia. This puppy was treated with Ringer’s solution, cefazolin, amikacin, B complex vitamins, and praziquantel forte tablets. One week after administration of these medicines, this puppy fully recovered. The exact cause of the disease is unknown, although myelitis and polyradiculitis due to autoimmune dis eases, production of some poisons by parasites, and hypokalemia can be considered.
