Executive functions refer to high-level cognitive processes that focus on goal directed behaviors. The quality of the individual's function in this developmental structure, is predictive of progress in a variety of dimensions throughout the life span. On the other hand, executive dysfunction is a major contributor to the etiology and explanation the symptoms of a variety of disorders, as well as their undesirable consequences. Accordingly, extensive research has been carried out in recent years in this area. The findings of the researches in conceptualization, identification of components and the role of executive functions in everyday life, along with its importance in the pathology of psychological disorders, have led to the formulation and presentation of interventions aimed at facilitating and enhancing executive functions and its components. Since childhood and adolescence are critical period in the development of executive action, interventions in this ages are emphasized. The research findings highlighted the effectiveness of special interventions for children and adolescents to facilitate the process of development, prevent the deterioration of problems and the course of disruptions associated with executive functions. Currently, increasing research supports the results of these new interventions to improve neurodevelopmental disorders and quality of life for the patients. Therefore, in the present paper, it has been attempted to provide a comprehensive overview of this developmental structure, the most important interventions in childhood and adolescence, which have the desired research support, to be introduced more widely.
