Abstract

This study was performed to evaluate the total phenolic content and antioxidant activity of the aerial parts of Fumaria vaillantii L. collected from northeast of Iran at three phenological stages of growth. Total phenolic content of aerial parts which harvested at vegetative, budding and flowering stages were 68.38, 71.11 and 56.42 mg GAE/g extract, respectively. In this experiment three different methods including 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), Ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) and Phosphomolybdenum complex were used to measure antioxidant activity. In DPPH and FRAP methods, antioxidant activities of the extracts from vegetative to flowering stages reduced. These findings proposed that the ethanolic extract from vegetative stage of Iranian F. vaillantii was a potential source of natural antioxidants for food and pharmaceutical industries.
