Abstract

Latex interpenetrating polymer networks were synthesized with multilayer core-shell structure using semi-continuous emulsion polymerization. The composition ratio of styrene/acrylate monomers in the three layers (core/shell/shell particles) were changed in a way that the glass transition temperature, Tg decreased from the core to the last shell. One peak in DLS curve and bright spherical region in the AFM images indicated the creation of a core-shell structure. Moreover, the study of the film forming capability of the core, shell 1 and 2 latexes showed that the film formation was mainly controlled by the Tg of the outermost layer of the latex.
