Abstract

The Zagros sedimentary basin is located in the west and southwest of Iran. Thickness of Asmari Formation in the studied well 429 meters was measured and consist mainly of limestone, dolomite, dolomitic limestone, calcareous shale and sandstone. In this well, both the lower and upper boundaries with Pabdeh and Gachsaran formations are continuous and gradual respectively. The age of Asmari Formation in the studied well Rupplein-Chattian to Aquitanian have been determined. In order to study of microfacies and sedimentary environment of Asmari Formation in the mentioned well, 150 thin sections (mainly drilling cores) have been studied and 10 microfacies, 4 facies were recognized. Based on identified facies, the Asmari formation in a carbonate platform, ramp( homoclinal) was deposited.
