Abstract

Salvia tebesanaBunge is a spring plant -Lamiaceae-, with the global distribution in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran.It spreads around the center and east of Iran. Due to the presence of essential oil and phenolic compounds, most species of salvia have high medicinal importance that would be a possibility for significance of this species. The purpose of this research was to compare the callus induction rates of leaf and petiole explants on MS medium under different concentrations of NAA -0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2 mg.l- and the determination of the optimal concentration of this hormone. After initial growing of plant in Hoagland nutrient solution, the matureleaf andits petiole were selected as explants. These explants were cultured on the MS medium with different concentrations of NAA and after 8 weeks, the percentage of callus production, form and fresh weight of callus was evaluated. Based on the results, callus production of both explants was onlyobserved in 0.5 and 1 mg.l NAA. The callus originated from petiole explants had higher percentage and fresh weight under 0.5 mg.l NAA.
