Abstract

The Iranian model of kidney donation is a regulated system of living renal transplant where recipients and compensated donors could be matched either through the Kidney Patients\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\' Foundation or just by themselves. We have obtained donors data, August 2016 up to April 2018, from koliee.ir, the largest online kidney matching point in Iran and around the globe, to assess factors that shape the willingness to accept (WTA) of kidney donors. Our descriptive analysis shows that most kidney donors are male around 31 years old with an average WTA of almost 12400 USD. Men, donors in urgent need of money, and those living in Tehran have a lower WTA, donors with blood type B have a significant higher WTA, while age has no significant effect on it. Our results call for not only a higher official floor price for a kidney but also more flexible one which is adjusted more frequently according to potential excess supply, compatibility of different blood types and inflation.
