Abstract
INTRODUCTION Curcuminiods, natural polyphenolic compounds derived from Curcuma longa L, have wide range of therapeutic activities including antioxidant, free radical scavenging protection of biological membranes against peroxidative damage, increased immune function, antiviral and antibacterial. Unfortunately, Poor bioavailability of curcuminoids due to low absorption, fast metabolism and fast systemic elimination from the body has been a major issue. One of the suggestions to improve the bioavailability of curcuminoids is the use of their nanoparticles to increase oral absorption. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of different levels of dietary nanomicelles Curcuminoid on qualitative and quantitative factors of eggs, serum biochemical parameters and immune system of old laying hens. MATERIALS AND METHODS To conduct this study, a total of 160 laying hens of Hy-Line strain were used in a completely randomized design, including 4 treatments with 4 replicates of 10 hens each. Dietary treatments contained 0 (control), 400, 800 and 1200 mg/kg nanomicelles Curcuminoids. Performance traits were assessed weekly and egg qualitative and quantitative variables were measured bi-weekly. The Evaluation of serum biochemical parameters and serum immunology factors after SRBC injection was conducted in the middle and at the end of the experiment. Blood samples were taken from 2 birds per replicate to evaluate blood parameters. Data were analyzed using Duncan’s test; the significant level was reported at 5%. RESULT AND DISCUSSION The effect of nanomicell curcuminoids addition on feed intake, feed convention ratio and egg quantitative traits were not significant (P<0.05) but caused improvements in egg production rate, egg mass values and also yolk color (P<0.05). By investigating serum biochemical parameters in the middle of experiment it was revered that ALT and AST concentration significantly decreased (P<0.05) under the effect of low-dose nanomicell curcuminoids. Concentration of LDL and HDL: LDL ratio were affected by consuming different levels of nanomicells (P<0.05) at the end of experiment. Improvement of total anti SRBC, IgG and IgM titers after injection was observed (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS As a result of this study, supplementation with nanomicelles leads to reduction in lipids profile of serum and improvement of immune system of the laying hens. The result of this experiment demonstrated that nanomicell curcuminoids supplement could improve hepatocytes functions. In old hens nanomicell did not have positive effect on shell thickness but it increased egg production.
