Abstract

For the first time, Ag nanoparticles/phosphomolybdate/reduced graphene oxide (Ag/PMo/RGO) nanocomposite was prepared and its antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli (E. coli) was assessed by the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), the minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC), time-killing curve, and the morphology of the bacteria before and after exposure to Ag/PMo/RGO. The MIC and MBC values of the nanocomposite were measured as 256 and 512 μg/mL, respectively. Since the ratio of MBC to MIC of Ag/PMo/RGO was less than 4, it could be considered as a bactericidal agent. The MIC value of the Ag/PMo/RGO is 256 μg/mL which is 15.31 and 7.66 times less than those of PMo (3920 μg/mL) and PMo/RGO (512 μg/mL), respectively. Hence, Ag/PMo/RGO exhibited superior antibacterial efficiency compared with those of PMo and PMo/RGO. The results showed that the cytotoxicity of Ag/PMo/RGO depends on time as well as the concentration of the nanocomposite.
