Abstract

Abstract: Since the multi-level power converters are serving as adequate options to deal with problems such as high THDs, low efficiency or may the requirement for high rated power switches in high voltage applications, they are prevalent in many industrial applications. SCMLI and SDCS-CHB structures are adopted for the above mentioned utilizations. However, the cost and complexity are significantly increased by raising the number of output voltage levels for these converters. In this paper, a novel topology for multi-level power converter is presented based on SCMLI and SDCS-CHB structures where produces 21 different voltage levels in its output. As a capacitor is employed in one of the dc buses in the proposed topology, its voltage balance should be considered. The value of the capacitor voltage is determined such that the repetitive voltage levels are created. These levels increase the system\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s capability to control the capacitors voltage. In the following, a switching algorithm is presented whichever not only sets suitable voltage levels in the output, but also regulates the capacitor voltage on the predefined value over the repetitive voltage levels. Simulation results made by MATLAB/Simulink show that this topology can fulfil the load with 15 different levels by the proposed switching algorithm
