Abstract

Iran was one of the first countries to grapple with the Corona crisis. The sudden increase in the number of patients and deaths due to the crisis in the first wave of the disease confused the Iranian authorities and increased the number of casualties and damages of the Coronavirus. The rapid and widespread spread of the coronavirus in Iran goes back to a series of economic, political, and ideological factors. As China is a major trading partner of Iran, it was predictable that Iran would be exposed to an epidemic very soon, but the country\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s failure to take precautionary measures against the virus and this allowed the disease to enter Iran sooner than other Middle Eastern countries and spread faster. Before to the Coronavirus pandemic crisis, Iran struggled with sanctions problems. US international sanctions against Iran and the support of most countries in the world with these sanctions have put Iran in a difficult situation. Accordingly, with the onset of the Corona crisis, Iran has become increasingly troubled. Lack of pharmaceuticals and health supplies has been a major consequence of US sanctions against Iran in pandemic situation. Crisis management was much weaker than expected in the early days of the corona. The accumulation of political and economic crises and its coincidence with the Corona crisis and the corruption of Iranian officials made crisis management very difficult in the early stages. US sanctions have weakened the management of the Corona crisis by weakening Iran\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s economic and trade channels and intimidating the world from cooperating with Iran. In addition, unequal international conditions for international aid and cooperation with US-sanctioned countries have greatly increased Iran\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s casualties and aggravated the situation. In addition, the issue of corruption in the political structure and lack of resources has weakened crisis management in emergencies. Iran\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s lack of connection with the international system and the use of international opportunities due to political problems with the United States and Israel has led to the failure of successful experiences of crisis management and its manifestations in Iran. Sanctions, especially economic and political sanctions, have been among the main factors in this issue. Political and economic sanctions have severely slowed crisis management in the Islamic Republic by depriving Iran\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s opportunities for globalization. Despite Iran\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s lack of access to international opportunities and global experiences in controlling the Coronavirus crisis, the country\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s management has improved in the later stages of the crisis. The pressure of public opinion through social networks and better cooperation with international organizations has been effective in this regard. This article seeks to explain and analyze the relationship between international sanctions and crisis management in the context of the Coronavirus pandemic by using Iran\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s experiences and policies. The main methodology of the paper is based on qualitative and descriptive analysis.
