Chatbot: An intelligent tool for libraries Introduction Often libraries suffer from issues related to the adoption of new digital technologies and resistance to change. They often react to the use of a technology after it has reached relative stability (Wheatly and Hevieux, 2019). A study on librarians at Tehran University showed that the ambiguity and uncertainty of the resulting changes as the most important factor in resisting technology or changing it (Nakhoda and Tajik, 2017). It seems that there is still rigidity and resistance to the use of artificial intelligent (AI) technologies in libraries. The Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) calls AI “the scientific understanding of the basic mechanisms of intelligent thinking and behavior and their visualization in machines”. As in other areas, the impact of AI and computer technologies on the future of libraries is inevitable and predictable. Library- oriented AI applications strive to improve the quality of library performance and services. Liu (2010) believes that librarians and AI reinforce each other to provide the best services to users and are in fact complementary.
