Abstract
Warming and the formation of heat islands is one of the major problems of metropolises and indicates their lack of sustainable development. Using green roofs is suggested as a solution to reduce the effects of that. In this research, using long-term temperature time-series data, the effects of green roofs created around a synoptic station have been studied. In addition to that, two stations were applied as the comparison base. The time series of each station was fitted with a linear model and the trend of temperature changes was compared with two other stations in New York City. All three stations showed an increase in temperature over 57 years. The results of a comparison of the slope of the fitted line showed that a green roof reduced the city by at least 20%.
