Abstract

This paper proposes two new step-up active rectifiers which can improve the output dc voltage gain and so are suitable for use in any application requiring a dc power supply. They also benefit from a low semiconductor voltage stress, a low number of semiconductor devices operating simultaneously, high power factor, acceptable grid side quality and high efficiency. The proposed rectifiers, referred to as typeI and type-II offer a high voltage gain positive and negative dc voltage, respectively. The performance of the converters is evaluated for ac to dc single phase grid connected power supplies. Finally, experimental results for a 300 W, 110 Vrms to ±400 Vdc prototype are provided in an open-loop system. The obtained results substantiate the theoretical analysis and the applicability of these structures. The converters exhibit the capability for ac to dc power conversion and demonstrate a peak efficiency of 96.3 % and 95.6 % in the positive and the negative outputs, respectively
