Abstract

The present study compared functional properties of Thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPVs) based on high molecular weight hydrogenated styrenic block copolymer (SEBS)/polypropylene (PP) with two types conventional TPVs containing ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM)/ polypropylene (PP) and polyolefin elastomer (POE)/PP. All of the TPVs were produced via an industrial scale twin-screw extruder.TPV based on POE/PP has the highest tensile strength (10.4 MPa). The tensile strength of the EPDM/PP and POE/PP was 7.4 and 6.4 MPa, respectively. Naturally, the POE/PP has the lowest value of elongation at break (198 %). TPV based on EPDM/PP has the lowest of melt flow index (MFI) (190 °C, 10 kg, 0.8 g/10min). Heat aging was studies (85 °C for 168 h) on all TPVs reviled that tensile strength due to aging TPV base on the SEBS/PP had the highest amount (10%), the TPV based on the EPDM/PP (4%) and the TPV based on the POE/PP (- 0.6 %). Aging study, however, was not affected on hardness of the all three types of the prepared TPV. The compression set (70 °C and 22 h) of the TPV based on the EPDM/PP had the lowest value (33%). The compression set of the TPV based on the PP/POE and the TPV based on the SEBS/PP was the value of 52% and 36%, respectively. The TPV based on the POE/PP has the highest hardness (89 shore A). The other two types have almost the same hardness (75 shore A).
