Abstract
The utilization of various feedstock to produce liquid fuels from FT technology influences economic and environmental metrics in different aspects. The primary result indicates that using natural gas as feedstock can significantly increase the process efficiency of the plant. In contrast, using biomass as the sole feedstock can increase the total fixed investment of the system, as it requires larger equipment and a higher amount of energy. A feedstock ratio of 4 (biomass to natural gas) in Scenario 3 demonstrates better economic performance compared to the other process designs. The LCA results indicate that the electricity consumption of the plant plays a key role in its environmental impacts. Although using biomass as a renewable feedstock has fewer environmental impacts compared to natural gas, the substantial power usage of compressors after the gasification unit makes the first scenario the worst.
