Abstract

Sensor arrays have gained significant traction in both industrial and medical applications due to their versatile utility. This article introduces innovative adaptive measurement techniques and circuit implementations aimed at elevating the accuracy, dynamic range (DR), and readout speed of resistive sensor arrays (RSAs). The proposed circuit employs a dynamic gain for the transimpedance amplifier, effectively mitigating the impact of parasitic resistances through an analog compensation architecture. Furthermore, a novel two-step readout algorithm is introduced, aimed at improving the frame rate of the system. This new approach leads to approximately six times improvement in readout speed compared to conventional algorithms for a plantar pressure array employed in gait analysis. Notably, all proposed methodologies are fully compatible with large-scale resistive arrays, as demonstrated in a 40-row ×240 -column plantar pressure sensor implementation.
