Abstract

Objective: Due to the widespread use of nanoparticles in various industries and medical science, few studies have been reported on the synthesis and application of metal nanoparticles by cold tolerant bacteria. Methods: In this study, green synthesis of cerium oxide nanoparticles was carried out by psychrotrophic Stenotrophomonas sp. BS. The produced nanoparticles were characterized by UV-visible spectroscopic analysis, DLS and XRD. Results: The absorption peak of the UV-visible spectrum was observed in the range of 300 nm. The average size distribution pattern of nanoparticles was 32.37 and 5.92 nm using DLS and XRD, respectively. Examining the antimicrobial effects of nanoparticles on the Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, and Bacillus subtilis showed that they have remarkable antimicrobial properties, especially on Gram-positive bacteria. The antioxidant activity of nanoparticles was measured as 48% against DPPH radicals. Conclusion: The obtained results suggest that the CeO2 from Stenotrophomonas sp. BS is the good candidate for use in medical application.
