Abstract
This studywasconductedtoinvestigatetheeffectsofdietaryceriumoxidenanoparticles(CeO2-NPs), ongrowthperformance, plasma biochemistryandhistopathologicalchangesofkoi fish (Cyprinus carpio koi) exposedto florfenicol (FF)antibioticina 60-day experiment.The fish withanaverageweightof2.380.44 gwerecompletelyrandomlydistributedintosixdifferentgroups with threereplications.Theexperimentalgroupsincluded:Basaldietwithoutadditives(control),basaldiet +oral antibiotic,basal diet +antibiotic bath,basaldietsupplementedwithCeO2-NPs, basaldietsupplemntedwithCeO2-NPs+antibiotic bath,andbasal diet supplementedwithCeO2-NPs+oral antibiotic.Theexperimentalunitwasaglassaquariumwithacapacityof110Lofwater and 10 fish werestockedinit.Attheendoftheexperimentalperiod,growthperformanceof fish, bloodplasmaindices,and histopathology ofliver,kidney,gill,andintestinewereinvestigated.Theresultsshowedthatthe final bodylengthofthe fish inthe basal diet +antibiotic bathgroupwassignificantly higherthanthecontrolgroupandthebasaldietsupplementedwithCeO2-NP+ oral antibioticgroup(p <0:05). Histologicalstudiesshowedthatthekidney,liver,andintestinallesionsof fish indifferentgroups did notdiffermicroscopically.Ingilltissues,changesinsecondarylamellaeandtheirdestructionoccurredindifferentpartsofthe primary lamellaeindifferentgroups,butoverall,nodifferenceswereobservedamongthedifferentgroups.Theplasmaaspartate transaminase (AST)andalaninetransaminase(ALT)levelsweresignificantly decreasedinallgroupscomparedtothecontrol (p <0:05), exceptthebasaldietsupplementedwithCeO2-NPs+antibiotic bathgroup.Theplasmabloodureanitrogen(BUN) level decreasedsignificantly inthebasaldietsupplementedwithCeO2-NPs+antibiotic bathgroupcomparedtothecontrol,while this valueincreasedinthebasaldiet+oral antibioticandthebasaldietsupplementedwithCeO2-NPs+oral antibioticgroups compared tothecontrol(p <0:05). TheresultsofthisstudyrevealedthataddingCeO2-NPs tothebasaldietatlevelof0.8mg/kg decreased thealkalinephosphatase(ALP),AST,andALPlevelsinplasmaofkoi fish comparedtothecontrol(p <0:05). The simultaneous administrationofdietaryCeO2-NPs withthebathandoralFFantibioticincreasedtheASTandALTlevelsandthe BUN levelinplasma,respectively(p <0:05).
