Abstract

This research leverages the conservation of resources theory to explore how workload influences the propensity to cut corners within Iran’s public sector, examining work-family and family-work conflicts as mediators, with generational differences acting as moderators. Utilising structural equation modelling to analyse survey responses from employees and supervisors, the study indicates that excessive workload and high employer demands may drive individuals to cut corners to manage work-related stress and lessen psychological distress. It specifically underscores the significance of work-family conflict for younger employees and women in fostering ethical workplace behaviour. The findings underscore the necessity for public sector organisations to implement interventions focusing on work-life balance and resolving work-family conflicts, thereby promoting ethical behaviour and enhancing organisational performance.
