Abstract

One of the most critical environmental and economic threats is soil erosion. Food security in rural areas is seriously threatened by soil erosion. In addition, agricultural land substantially impacts agriculture production due to severe soil erosion and loss of soil nutrients, which leads to a decrease in yield, which requires planning for conservation. The objective of this study was to use the revised universal soil loss equation to estimate erosion in an agricultural landscape. For this purpose, 26 plots were selected from autumn crops, including canola, wheat, barley, and triticale. This study was carried out in Dasht-e-Naz Sari, Mazandarn province (north of Iran), durimg 2019–2020. According to the findings, plot ≠ 21 of canola, plot ≠ 21 of barley, and plot ≠ 21 of wheat had the most high rates of soil erosion from the autumn crops plots equal to 1666.60 kg/ha, 1166.62 kg/ha and 1166.62 kg/ha, respectively. Also, the plots of triticale ≠ 16 and barley ≠ 12 had the lowest erosion rate (62.44 kg/ha). These plots with high plant density considerd for forage production. In fodder system, the land surface is cultivated with a higher density, which covers the soil surface thoroughly, and the plant organs prevent the soil from runoff. The soil erosion map showed that in the middle and northern regions, including plots ≠ 14, 19, 20, and 21 of wheat had the highest of soil erosion. Among the reasons for the increase of erosion in these plots, we can mention soil compaction by agricultural machineries. This result highlighted inadequate soil conservation techniques in studied region.
