Abstract

Composite shear walls, which integrate reinforced concrete and steel plate elements, are increasingly used as efficient lateral load-resisting systems in high-rise and critical structures. Among various configurations, embedded composite shear walls with corrugated steel infill plates have received relatively limited attention, and their structural behavior remains insufficiently explored. This study aims to address this gap through a detailed parametric numerical investigation focusing on two primary design parameters: the thickness of the corrugated steel infill plate and the compressive strength of the surrounding concrete. Nonlinear finite element models were developed and analyzed using ABAQUS to evaluate their influence on initial stiffness and lateral load-carrying capacity. The findings reveal that increasing the infill plate thickness significantly enhances the lateral strength of the wall system, with a 20% increase in thickness resulting in a 7% gain in strength. In contrast, the effect of concrete strength on initial stiffness is limited. However, improvements in concrete strength positively affect both performance indicators; a 20% increase in strength leads to a 45% rise in initial stiffness and a 4% improvement in lateral resistance. These results offer insights into optimizing the design of composite shear walls for enhanced structural performance.
