This study focuses on synthesizing nanocomposite adsorbents made from the metal-organic framework MIL-101(Cr) and graphene oxide nanoribbons (GONRs) through a one-pot hydrothermal method, with varying GONR weight ratios (0.25, 1.25, 2.5, 5, and 10 wt%). The resulting MIL-101(Cr)/GONR nanocomposites exhibited high porosity and were evaluated for dye removal, specifically targeting malachite green (MG) and rhodamine B (RB) from aqueous media. Various characterization techniques, involving XRD, FT-IR, FE-SEM, EDS, TEM, and nitrogen adsorption-desorption, confirmed successful GONR integration with MIL-101(Cr). Adsorption experiments revealed that incorporating GONRs with MIL-101(Cr) significantly enhanced dye removal efficiency compared to neat MIL-101(Cr), with MIL-101(Cr)/GONR-(5) showing the best performance. Operating variables like adsorbent amount, pH, temperature, contact time, and dye concentration were explored to optimize adsorption, which followed a Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second-order (PSO) kinetic model. Thermodynamic analysis showed the process to be spontaneous and endothermic. The highest adsorption capacities for MIL-101 (Cr)/GONR-(5) were 241 mg.g 1 for RB & 148 mg.g 1 for MG, demonstrating its potential for efficient cationic dye removal from wastewater. This study highlights the promise of MIL-101(Cr)/GONR nanocomposites in addressing environmental challenges related to dye pollutants.
