Title : ( Assessment of Wind System Characteristics and Land-Use Changes in the Boshruyeh Erg )
Authors: Mahdi Fazaeli Javan , Neda Mohseni ,Abstract
Ergs, as key desert landforms, significantly influence the geomorphic and environmental processes of drylands. This research examines how variations in wind regimes and land-use transformations have contributed to the shifting boundaries of the Boshruyeh erg, using historical Google Earth imagery spanning nearly 35 years. The dataset consists of multi-date satellite observations complemented by long-term meteorological records from the local station. Analyses show that the erg has progressively advanced toward agricultural fields, particularly along its southwestern boundary. This displacement corresponds with reduced vegetation cover, intensified wind activity, dominant northwestern-to-southwestern winds, and notable land-use alterations. Furthermore, remote-sensing assessments reveal an increase in saline surfaces within the southern and northwestern sectors of the erg, suggesting the combined impact of environmental factors and human interventions. Despite these changes, the internal dune formations remained largely unchanged during the study period. Findings of this research are applicable to regional land-management strategies, desertification mitigation, and the conservation of local natural resources.
