Abstract
Aerodynamic properties such as terminal velocity of agricultural produce are important and required for designing of air conveying systems and the separation equipment. The aerodynamic properties of Iranian sunflower seed (Azargol as a case study), kernel and its hull were evaluated as a function of size and moisture content ranged 3-14% (d.b.). The terminal velocity for seed, kernel and its hull in all studied sizes (big, average and small) increased linearly as moisture content increased from 3 to 14 %. The terminal velocity of seed varied from 6.22 to 6.74, 5.92 to 6.46 and 5.78 to 5.98 m/s for big, average and small sizes, respectively. The range of terminal velocity for kernel obtained 6.06 – 6.5, 5.68 – 6.2 and 5.24 – 5.66 m/s, respectively. Also, the values of hull in the studied moisture contents were 2.44 – 2.92, 2.32 – 2.7 and 2.06 – 2.36, respectively. The obtained results showed that terminal velocity increased with an increase in size, so maximum values belonged to big then average and the lowest values were belonged to small sizes.
