Title : ( A Young Learner`s Co-construction of L2 Literacy through ZPD-Activated Interactions While Watching Cartoons: A Case Study )
Authors: Reza Pishghadam , A. Mirzaee ,Abstract
Followed the innovations in the theories of learning put forward by Piaget and Vygotsky, this study was seeking to scrutinize and analyze their theories with respect to English literacy in a child as a case study, while watching cartoons. To this end, a case study was conducted on a child for more than three and a half years. The study was done in two phases: During the first phase, the child `s language behavior was observed carefully, and during the second phase the child was put under experiment in ZPD and non-ZPD situations. The results of both the longitudinal study and microgenetic analysis of the child-parent L2 co-construction demonstrated gradual self-regulation using the L2, while watching cartoons. Moreover, the results have been more compatible with Vygotsky`s theories than with those of Piaget on learning. Finally, some conclusions were made and some implications were provided for parents and practitioners in EFL contexts.
