The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of cottonseed meal (CSM) treated with sodium bentonite (SB) on internal quality of eggs during storage in cold temperature. A 3×3 factorial experiment was undertaken with 9 dietary treatments of 4 replicates each. Nine mash diets as 3 levels of SB (0, 10, and 20 g/kg) and 3 levels of CSM (0, 100, and 200 g/kg) were offered to 288 commercial Hy-Line W-36 hens from 51-63 weeks of age. Four eggs were randomly chosen from each replicate during the four consecutive days at the end of each period (3 periods of 28 days) and stored at 4 °C for 1, 2, 3, and 4 weeks. After storage, yolk discoloration score and pH along with the pH of albumen were determined. Feeding a diet with a high inclusion level of CSM (200 g/kg) resulted in significant increase in severe yolk discoloration during cold storage. The incorporation of SB in diet significantly reduced yolk discoloration during cold storage. The CSM at the level of 200 g/kg increased yolk pH, but reduced albumen pH during cold storage. All in all, the pH of yolk and albumen gradually rose as cold storage time increased.
