Abstract
Arsenic (As) is a ubiquitous element in the environment, where it occurs in both organic and inorganic forms; it can be found in food, water, soil and airborne particles (Fillol et al., 2010). Such toxic metals as arsenic can be enriched in the environment through natural geochemical processes or anthropogenic activities, and result in adverse impacts on human (Li et al., 2011). Arsenicosis, As toxicity due to chronic exposure, manifests itself as a variety of diseases of the dermal, cardiovascular, nervous, hepatic, hematological, endocrine and renal systems (Henke, 2009 & Fillol et al., 2010 & Hall et al., 2006). IARC (Working Group on the Evaluation of Carcinogenic Risks to Humans, 2004) debuted As at the top of the class in human cancer pathogenesis ranking. Hydrothermal alteration (Argillic) and mineralization of high As content sulfide-minerals such as Realgar, Orpiment and Pyrite occurred in Chelpu area in north eastern Iran. Determination of arsenic concentrations in water, and hair and urine biomarkers in Chelpu and Akbarabad (high exposure villages), and Keriz (low exposure village) was the purpose of this study
