Abstract
Introduction and Objectives: The worldwide distribution and spread of antibiotic resistant foodborne pathogens is a major global health threat. Salmonellosis is the second most common food borne illness after Campylobacter infection. Meat and poultry products are recognized as the major sources of infections in human. In this study, Salmonella isolates from different sources were investigated by molecular typing and Antibiotic Resistance profiling. Materials and Methods: A total of 80 salmonella sp., including 40 isolates from domestic animals and 40 isolates from poultry were investigated for antimicrobial resistance analysis and molecular typing by the means of disk diffusion method and ERIC PCR, respectively. Results: Among the variety of antibiotics tested, the highest and lowest resistances were found against Tetracyclin and Enrofloxacin respectively. The percentages resistance of salmonella isolates from poultry to Tetracyclin, Doxycyclin, Florfenicol, Sultrim and Enrofloxacin were 25%, 22/5%, 20%, 17/5% and5% and the isolates from domestic animals were 86/87%, 77/5%, 17/5%, 15% and5% respectively. Seven antibiotic resistance profiles have been identified. The most common resistance pattern for domestic animals and poultry isolates was T, D. There were 7bands among Salmonella isolates from poultry with different sizes form 270bp to1500bp. There were 20bands among Salmonella isolates from domestic animals with different sizes form 200bp to2900bp in ERIC PCR. Seven bands were common betweendomestic animals andpoultryisolates. Conclusion: There are clonal relationships between genetic profiles and antibiotics resistance among Salmonella isolates. Our results indicated resistance is developing and this will need further monitoring to ensure it does not become a problem.
