Abstract

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of using caffeine and trans-Cinnamaldehyde (TC) on hematological and hormonal levels in male broilers chicks under stresses induced by dexamethasone. Materials and Methods: This experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design with 200 of broiler (Ross-308) in 4 treatments and 5 replicate (with 10 hens in each replicate) from 1 to 42 days and included: 1) control group without any additives, 2) 0.5% caffeine powder 3) 1% TC 4) 0.5% caffeine powder + 1% TC. At 42 day of the experiment, Blood samples were collected in K3EDTA tubes. Each sample was coded and offered for manual microscopic count; blood smears were made and stained with May-Gru¨nwald-Giemsa stain. For hormonal level, blood samples were collected and centrifuged. Plasma corticosterone concentrations were measured by using enzyme-linked immunoassay, plasma serotonin concentrations were evaluated by using ELISA kit. All data were analyzed by the analysis of variance option GLM of SAS/STAT and when treatment means were significant, Tukey’s multiple range tests was used to compare means. Results and Conclusion: Results showed that treatment had no significant effects on hematological parameters. In the other hand, treatments had no significant difference on corticosterone levels, but mixture of caffeine and TC decreased serotonin level on 42d. It was conducted that Mixture of caffeine and TC decreased stress by reducing serotonin levels.
