Abstract
Groups of carp (Cyprinus carpio) were exposed to 0.4ppm cyanide and supplemented or not with 10% spirulina for 30 days. Values were compared with normal controls. Liver aspartate amino transferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase, kidney lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and brain AST increased (P<0.05), in fish exposed to cyanide compared with controls. Cyanide exposure had no significant effect on tissue alkaline phosphatase or rhodanese. However, kidney LDH and brain AST in fish supplemented with spirulina did not differ significantly from control values.
