Abstract
Nanocomposites have the ability and the potential to reduce the permeability of polymer composites against ingress of corrosive substances. Epoxy has been widely used as a coating material to protect substrate from corrosion. Epoxy has outstanding process ability, excellent chemical resistance, good electrical insulating properties, and strong adhesion. Epoxy coatings generally reduce the corrosion of substrate subject to an electrolyte in two ways. 1) They act as a physical barrier layer to control the ingress of deleterious species. 2) They can serve as a reservoir for corrosion inhibitors to aid the surface in resisting attack by aggressive species such as chloride anions.
