Abstract
Aerogels are nanoparticle with high specific surface area, open pores and low density. In addition, natural polysaccharide based aerogels possess properties of polysaccharides, such as good biological compatibility, degradability and non-toxicity that make them highly attractive in drug delivery. In this research, calcium alginate hydrogels were first synthesized by ionic cross-linking method. Then, Celecoxib, which is a selective non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, was loaded as a model drug on the hydrogel particles in solvent exchange stage. Particles were further converted into aerogels using supercritical drying technique. Furthermore, the kinetic release of drug was studied in vitro. SEM, BET and UV techniques were used for determination of particle size, shape, and specific surface area as well as released drug concentration.
