Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of acidifiers and saturated fat sources on performance, carcass characteristic and nutrient digestibility of broiler chickens. A total number of 480 day-old Ross broiler chickens were randomly divided into 12 treatment groups, each in four replicates of 10 chicks per replicate. In a completely randomized design, two fat sources (animal fat as tallow, T and vegetable fat powder as ERP10TM) at two levels (2.5 and 5.0 %) and two acidifiers as powder at two levels replacement from fat sources (0.15 and 0.30% C4TM; 0.5 and 1.0 % citric acid, CA). Results showed that average live body weight numerically was higher in chickens fed diet containing mixture of two fat sources and 1.0% CA. Supplementation of 0.3 % C4TM to diet with ERP10 TM decreased feed intake (P< 0.05). The lowest feed to gain ratio was obtained when two fat sources used with C4TM or CA at 15-21 days of age (P< 0.05). Nutrient digestibility improved when two fat sources mixed together and 0.3% C4 TM and 1.0% CA partly replaced with the fat sources. In conclusion, synergistic effect of the mixture of two fat sources along with 0.3% C4TM or 1.0% CA may improve broiler performance and nutrient digestibility.
