Abstract

Several defense systems are cooperating together in plants to cope with stressful situatiens. One of these stresses is heavy metals pollution of the plant^,s growing environment. Molybdenum¬ (Mo) is a heavy metal that is required by plants in very small amounts and in large amounts can be toxic for plants. It has been found that salicylic acid (SA) is able to reduce negative effects of heavy metals on different aspects of plant life. In this study, it has been investigated the effect of SA priming on none-enzymatic defence systems (including proline, malondialdehyde (MDA) and phenolic content) of parsley in Mo stress condition. Sterilized seeds soaked in SA solution (0, 0.5, 1, 2,5 μm) was transferred to pots containing perlit and irrigated with hogland nutrient solution in different Mo concentrations (control, 0.5, 2.5, 5 and 10 μm) in duration of 30 days and then samples were used to measure biochemical parameters. Results indicated that phenolic and proline content increased significantly under SA treatment in process of tension molybdenum. Increasing levels of molybdenum lead to increased lipid peroxidation, while increasing levels of SA in process of tension molybdenum reduced MDA content. This research showed that SA can improve stress tolerance in parsley under molybdenum stress.
