Abstract

In this study, a new design for a handheld device for patients with hand tremor such as Parkinson and Essential tremor patients is presented. This system can help discussed patients to have a life with higher quality. This device can be used as a smart pen to help the patients to use smart phones and tablets and it also can be used as a spoon to help people with hand shaking to eat easier. The device includes two links, which are connected to step motors and the required power of mechanism is supplied by batteries. The discussed stepper motors are mounted in two orthogonal directions. To actively control effects of the hand tremor, the PID controllers are used to organize the motor rotation for moving the links in opposite direction of tremor. Finally, effect of using the discussed system for suppressing undesired tremor of hand is shown and discussed.
