Background and Aim:Streptomyces is a genus of filamentous bacteria that is well known for it’s great ability to produce a vast range of antibiotics and bioactive products. Given the fact that antibiotic resistance has become a serious medical issue in the world, it is of paramount importance to explore for novel antimicrobial resources. Studies showed that minerals including NaCl, K2HPO4 and MgSO4 have positive effect on antimicrobial production by Streptomyces.The aim of this study is to test the influence of these minerals on antibacterial production of Streptomyces sp.ACS116. Methods:Different concentrations of these minerals ranging from 0.01 to 0.1 % W/V for K2HPO4 and MgSO4 and 0.5 to 2.5 % W/V for NaCl were added to the medium and after 7 days of incubation, inhibition zones were measured by agar well diffusion method on Staphylococcus aureus PTCC 1431. Results:The results showed that K2HPO4 with 0.025 % W/V concentration has a substantial positive impact on antibacterial production of this strain, increasing the production by 2.5 fold compared to negative control. The optimum concentration for NaCl was 1.5 %W/V which increased the production and MgSO4 had no significant influence on the production. Conclusion:minerals have significant impact on antimicrobial production by Streptomyces.
